Amongst health expects, crash diets are seen as a bad idea for most people as:
- They encourage loss of more lean tissue (muscle) than diets which produce a slower weight loss on a higher calorie level.
- They may be lacking in nutrients - both macro nutrients such as fat, protein or carbohydrate, and micro nutrients such as vitamins and minerals
- They don’t encourage sensible eating habits and this means that after the crash diet is over weight is easily regained. In time, this can turn into a ‘yo-yo’ dieting habit, which is demoralizing.
